AAN 2022 | Mechanisms behind development of neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer’s disease

Corinne Fischer, MD, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, explains how we do not yet have a comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms that lead to the appearance of neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Some of the mechanisms that are being investigated involve common biomarkers of AD, such as amyloid and tau, while others are associated with inflammation or vascular disease. Dr Fischer also explains how disruption of the default mode network (DMN) could be involved. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
