AD/PD 2022 | The function of TAM receptors in health and disease

Greg Lemke, PhD, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, San Diego, CA, outlines the function of TAM receptors (Tyro3, Axl, and Mer), expressed on the sentinel cells of the immune system, such as macrophages and dendritic cells. TAM receptors recognize phosphatidylserine expressed on apoptotic cells, subsequently leading to their removal by phagocytosis. TAM receptors also act as inhibitors of the immune response when activated on macrophages and dendritic cells at the end of the response. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2022 Conference in Barcelona, Spain.
