VJVirtual | EAN guidance on managing patients with dementia

Kristian Steen Frederiksen, MD, PhD, FEBN, Danish Dementia Research Centre, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, discusses the importance of the new European Academy of Neurology (EAN) guideline on medical management issues in dementia. Although no disease-modifying therapy is available for dementia, several associated symptoms and comorbidities can be managed. The guideline addresses five issues that clinicians regularly face, including systematic medical follow-up, management of vascular risk factors, pain management, treatment of agitation/aggressive behavior with anti-psychotics, and epilepsy in dementia.
