AAIC 2021 | Comparing the research behind Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease treatments

Konstantin Senkevich, MD, PhD of the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital, Canada, shares his thoughts on notable talks given at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2021, while giving an overview of progress in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research, compared to Parkinson’s disease (PD) research. AD research is ahead of PD research in the amount of understanding of the disease, as well as financially. Dr. Senkevich mentions novel genetic discoveries in early onset AD as a meeting highlight, particularly the discovery of rare variances in lysosomal genes that are prevalent in early onset AD, which can be compared to his own research into lysosomal genes in PD. This interview took place during the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC), 2021.
