AAIC 2018 | Type 2 diabetes could be an early indicator for Alzheimer’s

A link between type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s has been known for some time due to elevated insulin levels. Here, Karl Herrup, PhD, of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong, SAR, P.R. China, explains the role of elevated insulin in Alzheimer’s and why this can be dangerous. Speaking from the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2018, in Chicago, IL, Prof. Herrup mentions some ongoing research in the field of diabetes treatment and how this could cross-over to the field of dementia, before touching on some other possible causes of Alzheimer’s disease, such as mitochondrial degeneration.
