AAIC 2017 | The advantage of blood-based screening for Alzheimer’s disease

Tau PET is a commonly used imaging technique to screen for those at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD), however the procedure is limited by its invasive nature. Michelle Mielke, PhD from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN discusses the main advantage of instead using plasma total tau to assess risk, and the conclusions made when the specificity of both methods was compared. There is a large scope for research in this field, and Dr Mielke tells us about another potential marker for AD which is currently under investigation. This interview was recorded at the 2017 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) held in London, UK.
