AAIC 2017 | How is the blood brain barrier affected by Alzheimer’s disease?

The vasculature surrounding the brain plays a crucial role in supplying the organ with blood and essential nutrients, and ensures that any harmful molecules are kept out. Zhen Zhao, PhD from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, LA talks to us about his work in understanding the mechanisms behind this transportation process, and how it differs in Alzheimer’s disease patients. Prof. Zhao explains what was discovered, and how he hopes his work will benefit treatment of the disease. This interview was recorded at the 2017 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) held in London, UK.
