AAIC 2022 | Lifestyle intervention strategies in Alzheimer’s disease

James Galvin, MD, MPH, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL, describes the current intervention strategies regarding patient care for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). There has been an emphasis on the significance of lifestyle behaviors in AD and this is reflected in the management of the disease. Individuals that are physically and cognitively active, maintain a healthy diet, and have high levels of social engagement are at lower risk of Alzheimer’s development. Interestingly, implementing these lifestyle factors can also reduce disease progression. In addition to health promotion and healthy behavioral changes, optimal control of comorbidities also contributes to reducing development and progression risk. Dr Galvin also addresses pharmacological aspects of patient management, such as the utilization of available medicines and enrolment in future clinical trials. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022 in San Diego, CA.
