AAIC 2022 | Optimizing neighborhood and community factors for improved brain aging

Lilah Besser, PhD, MSPH, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Boca Raton, FL, talks on research looking at neighborhood and community factors that can help maintain cognitive function into older age. While still in its infancy, studies in this field have shown links between greater walking, retail, and social destinations and increased likelihood of getting physical activity and social interaction, which can in turn have a positive impact on brain health outcomes. Longitudinal studies would provide valuable insights on the relationships between neighborhood built and social environments, cognitive function, and healthy brain aging. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022 in San Diego, CA.
