ARUK 2023 | Establishing the UK DRI Biomarker Factory

Amanda Heslegrave, PhD, University College London, London, UK, introduces the UK DRI Biomarker Factory, a service set up in 2021 for researchers across the globe investigating neurodegenerative disease. Over the last decade, cutting edge technology has hugely increased the sensitivity with which biomarkers can be measured, revolutionizing our capacity to detect analytes in blood in the earliest stages of disease. The team at UCL invested in this ultra-sensitive technology and began to build collaborations with labs across the world to measure samples and build up a large body of evidence. In response to increasing demand, the Biomarker Factory was established following a pilot grant from the UK DRI. The team are world-leading in establishing novel assays for the identification of new biomarkers, and the platform can be used by the research community for fluid biomarker development, validation, and measurement. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) Conference 2023 in Aberdeen, UK.
