AAIC 2022 | Guiding patients on intermittent fasting for brain health

Mark Mattson, PhD, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, highlights several resources that can be used by clinicians to learn more about the role of caloric restriction and intermittent fasting in brain health and neurodegenerative disease. Dr Mattson’s book, The Intermittent Fasting Revolution, discusses the science behind how intermittent fasting can enhance resilience, improve mental and physical performance, and protect against aging and disease. He also highlights a review paper (Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease) which contains advice for physicians who want to discuss fasting with their patients. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022 in San Diego, CA.
