AAIC 2022 | Neuropsychiatric and behavioral markers of dementia risk

Zahinoor Ismail, MD, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, highlights the key themes from a session he chaired at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022 focused on cognitive and behavioral markers of dementia risk. The talks discussed recent efforts to move beyond using only cognitive measures for determining risk. Many groups are looking into neuropsychiatric symptoms and mild behavioral impairment (MBI) and how these changes associate with pathological markers. New findings were also presented on the influence of depression on the association of motoric cognitive risk syndrome and cognition, and the associations between REM-sleep quantity and basal forebrain cholinergic system integrity. This interview took place at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022 in San Diego, CA.
