Miwako Honda, MD, National Hospital Organization Tokyo Medical Center, Tokyo, Japan, outlines the principles of the Humanitude Care Methodology and discusses its implementation in Japan. Humanitude is a multimodal comprehensive care methodology, that has demonstrated efficacy in preventing and reducing agitation behaviors and improving care acceptance in patients with dementia and other major neurocognitive disorders. Dr Honda tells the story of how Humanitude was rolled out in various care settings in Japan, sharing news segments that show the difference this approach to care can make. Three categories of Humanitude research are ongoing in Japan: why the system works, how it can be optimally taught to healthcare professionals and caregivers, and how to develop a system to support geriatric society. This interview took place during the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference 2021.
