ARUK 2021 | Investigating microstructural properties of SWM in Alzheimer’s disease

Superficial white matter (SWM), the thin layer of WM just underneath the cortical sheet, is understudied in Alzheimer’s disease. Tom Veale, PhD Student, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, London, UK, discusses the findings from a study investigating microstructural properties of SWM by combining diffusion MRI (dMRI) measures with those from multi-parametric mapping (MPM). Preliminary results demonstrate associations between the two independent methods, which could further clarify underlying microstructural SWM changes in Alzheimer’s disease. This interview took place during the Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) Conference 2021.
