Risk factors for dementia: cause, effect or frailty?

A wide range of factors have been linked to the risk of developing dementia. However, as highlighted here by David Llewellyn, PhD, of the University of Exeter Medical School, Exeter, UK, determining which factors are a cause of dementia, rather than an effect or general sign of ageing, is difficult.
