CTAD 2022 | Next generation tau tracers: [18F]MK-6420 vs [18F]flortaucipir

Second generation tau-PET tracers are beginning to emerge, raising questions about their potential in daily practice in comparison to widely used tracers such as [18F]flortaucipir (FTP). [18F]MK-6240 is one such second generation tracer that shows promise in the Alzheimer’s disease space. In a direct comparison, [18F]MK-6240 has a higher sensitivity than [18F]FTP, however Alexis Moscoso Rial, PhD, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden, expresses the need for antemortem and postmortem neuropathological studies comparing second generation tau-PET tracers to better understand this sensitivity within a clinical context. This interview took place at the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer’s Disease Congress 2022 in San Francisco.
