AD/PD 2023 | Exploring the potential role of amyloid deposition in the gut in Alzheimer’s disease

Giovanni Frisoni, MD, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland, discusses how amyloid deposition in the gut may play a role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Research in Parkinson’s disease (PD) has demonstrated that alpha-synuclein may develop in the gut and spread to the brain, and it is hypothesized that a similar process may occur in AD. Prof. Frisoni explains that certain bacteria in the gut may contribute to aberrant amyloid deposition in the gastrointestinal tract, which is being further researched. This interview took place at the AD/PD™ 2023 congress in Gothenburg, Sweden.
